Children and Fear
Children grow through emotional development more easily when they feel strong ties to the people they depend on.
When I was a teacher and a student exhibited a great deal of feal while being apart from a parent, I usually suggested they have an object with them that is a reminder of the parent’s love. Some students had a pin, others a note taped to their desk. Whatever helped the student get a boost to persevere with the school day with more confidence.
I just read a children’s book that has a unique idea as to how to help children remember that those they love are with them even when they are not physically there. The book, The Invisible String by Patrice Kerst shares just that.
I highly recommend this book if your child or student is exhibiting fear. It can provide a mental reminder that those they love are always with them. It is very sweet and shares that no matter how far away they are, the love bond does not break.
